Installation & Setup

Prerequisites

  • Atlassian JIRA 3.7 or higher
  • Make sure the JIRA RCP Plugin is enabled in your JIRA application server. For more info on setting up the RCP Plugin on your JIRA server, click here.

Installing in Eclipse 3.4.x

Create a new update site via Help > Software Updates

In the dialog that pops up, select the Available Software tab and click the Add Site... button. In the Location, enter the URL, http://www.jirabuddy.com/update_1.0.x, and press the OK button.

Expand the http://www.jirabuddy.com/update_1.0.x tree and select the latest version of the JiraBuddy Feature, then press the Install... button.

NOTE: After pressing the Install... button, Eclipse will calculate the requirements and dependencies needed to run JiraBuddy. It may take a few minutes for this operation to complete, so please be patient.  You can monitor the status of the requirement and dependency installation in the Eclipse task bar located on the lower-right corner of Eclipse.

After the requirements and dependencies are installed, make sure the JiraBuddy Feature is selected and press the Next button. Agree to the license and press the Finish button.

Once JiraBuddy is installed, you will be prompted to restart Eclipse, select Yes to restart.

After the workbench restarts, JiraBuddy should now be installed and enabled by default. You can verify the installation by going to Help > About Eclipse Platform and clicking on the Feature Details button. The dialog should have an entry for PuguaSoft and the JiraBuddy Plug-in feature.

If you don't see an for the JiraBuddy plug-in or you're having problems installing the plug-in, please contact development [at] jirabuddy.com

Installing in Eclipse 3.3.x

NOTE: JiraBuddy "works" for Eclipse 3.3/Europa, however not all features are supported or works properly since JiraBuddy 1.0.0+ was built against Eclipse 3.4/Ganymede.

For the most part, installation in Eclipse 3.3.x is very similar to Eclipse 3.4.x. Some dialogs, screens, and menus for Software Updates may be a little different, but
you should still be able to follow the steps in Installing in Eclipse 3.4.x to get JiraBuddy working in Eclipse 3.3.x.

Setup

Configure the JiraBuddy plug-in via Window > Preferences... > JiraBuddy menu.

Connection Setting

Be sure to setup the Connection preference by entering the apropriate credentials to connect to your Jira server.  Press the Test Connection to test the connection to your JIRA server. If you get an error or Java exception, please refer to the FAQ page.

Hover Feature

If you want to enable the Hover feature, then configure the Hovers preferences. In the Hovers preference page under the General tab, make sure Select to enable JiraBuddy's Hover feature is checked. Under the Information tab, check the JIRA issue information you would like to appear in the hover tooltip. Under the Project Keys tab, enter the unique JIRA keys for the projects you wish to enable the Hover feature. For example, if you have a JIRA project JiraBuddy with the key JRABDY, add JRABDY to the Project Keys preference.

Press the Apply button and then the OK button. You should now be able to start using JiraBuddy and the Hover feature.
